Rihanna’s Man Down Video Under Attack

Rihanna is in the news again with her controversial video Man Down. The beginning of the video has Rihanna shooting an unarmed man in cold blood.
It does not show you why until the end. Rihanna twittered “Young girl/women all over the world…we are a lot of things! We’re strong innocent fun flirtatious vulnerable and sometime our innocence can cause us to be naïve! We always think it could Never be us, but in reality, it can happen to Any of us! So ladies be careful.” I strongly agree with Rihanna’s twitter message. As for her video I agree. I have always said if I am sexually assaulted, that person better kill me because I would hunt them down and end their life. I know it is wrong to take a life, but I can’t image that person only getting a short amount of time for what they have done. To walk the streets so they can do it again to someone else is not right. Like the Jaycee Dugard, she was abducted at the age of ten and held for eighteen years. Jaycee’s life was stolen from her. Phillip Craig Garrido was sentenced to 431 years to life. I don’t think that’s good enough, I hope in prison he is rapped every day of his 431 years. Garrido was a serial rapist he should not have been out on parole in 1976. Nancy Garrido got 36 years, that’s not enough either I hope her 36 years a pure hell. Anyone one that sexually assaults another person needs to be put down.

He's everything BUT...COMMON!"

He goes by the stage name "Common", however, compared to other hip-hop artists-turned actors...he is ironically un-common!
Born Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr. in Chicago 39 years ago, 'Common' was raised mostly by his mother, a PHD and educator who divorced his father, an ABA Basketball player when 'Common' was just six.
Never-the-less, both parents inspired him as a youth, with Dad Lonnie landing his son a job with the NBA's Chicago Bulls as a teenager.
Soon afterward 'Common' began to spawn his music career after forming a highschool rap trio, which actually opened for top acts like 'N.W.A.' and 'Big Daddy Kane'!
As a 20-year old Business Administration major at Florida A&M University, 'Common' debuted with the single "Take It EZ" followed by the album "Can I Borrow a Dollar?"...under the stage name "Common Sense".
He soon switched to the name 'Common' when a West Coast group already using "Common Sense" threatened to sue him.
'Common' eventually developed a devout underground following through the late 90's from his work with the 'Soulquarians' and his first major-label album "Like Water For Chocolate"...which launched him into the hip-hop mainstream.
Hit albums "Resurrection" and "One Day It Will All Make Sense" would follow, as 'Common teamed with veteran producer 'No I.D.' who was also the, then-mentor of 'Kanye West'.
'Common' won his first "Grammy" award in 2003 for 'Best R&B Song' "The Love Of My Life" (An Ode to Hip-Hop) with 'Erykah Badu'.
Another nomination came in 2006 for 'Best Rap Album' "Be", followed by 'Common's' 2nd "Grammy" for 'Best Duo Performance' for "Southside" featuring 'Kanye West".  Several "B.E.T Hip Hop","Black Reel" "Image", and "MTV Video Music Awards" would follow.
Through all of this, 'Common Joined an elite fraternity of hip-hop artists who have initiated bright, acting careers by scoring substancial parts in top-notch films.
His resume includes roles in "Smokin Aces", "Street Kings", "American Gangster", "Wanted", "Terminator Salvation", and "Just Wright".
Also included in 'Common's' un-common career is a massive fued with the West Coast rap group 'Westside Connection', whereby the lyrics from his song "I Used To Love H.E.R. openly criticized the West Coast's violent path being taken towards 'Gansta Wrap'.
Lyrics not-withstanding, I distinctly enjoyed this cut, comparing it to 'Common's' usual, original, clarity of melody and pleasant vocal style.  However, this coast-to-coast war of lyric-slashing songs destructively dragged on for months until, finally...none other than 'Louis Farrakhan' managed to convince both parties to meet and make peace!
His most recent and un-common controversy happened this past week when 'Common' was invited to the White House by our First Lady Michelle Obama to be part of a special poetry reading.
Objections sparked immediately from the New Jersey State Police Department who claim that lyrics from one of 'Common's' songs called "A Song For Assata" were delivered in poor taste.
The song is about 'Black Liberation Army' member Joanne Chesimard who was convicted of murdering a New Jersey State Trooper in 1977, and 'Common's' poetry claims she was wrongly accused while being framed and victimized by racism...thus sparking a nation-wide controversy.
Should the White House guest list include defenders of cop killers?  Or not?
'Common' has stated very clearly state that "in no way should anyone question my full support for the police officers and troops that protect us everyday".
While President Obama did not support the questionable lyrics, he believes that some of negative reports coming out about 'Common' distort what 'Common' more broadly stands for.
The loudest protests seemed to come from Fox News, Sarah Palin, and Bill O'Reilly...who all basically felt 'Common' wasn't worthy of being a White House Guest based on this and other controversial material, inspiring one remark: "I guess Sarah Palin and Fox News doesn't like me".
TV host John Stewart, however, argued on the air with Bill O'reilly that other singers such as 'Bono' and 'Bob Dylan' sang about wrongly accused yet convicted murderers, also under the shingles of the White House...yet neither received objection or criticism.
I see where I could side with Stewart in so far as...the whole thing was over done!  It will probably only enhance the already successful career of 'Common'...which should promise even more money, songs, film roles, endorsements, and controversial platforms and causes which he seems destined to include in future lyrics and songs.  Stay tuned!
Thanks, and catch 'Common' on Streetwise Radio's "Big Hop" airing every evening at 6pm!
Sincerely, PeteCam4

"Nate Dogg's death shocks rap world!"

Nate DoggCover of Nate Dogg
The rap world was shaken Tuesday with news from Long Beach, California regarding the death of 41-year old 'Nate Dogg', the smooth-voiced hook singer who helped 'Snoop Dogg', 'Dr.Dre', and 'Warren G.' pioneer the West Coast hip-hop and gangster-rap explosion of the early 1990's.

Born 'Nathaniel Hale', Nate Dogg suffered from ill health in recent years due to a series of strokes that left him partially paralized,  and, well may have lead to his death. No official cause has been released yet, however, it's speculated that Nate died of apparent heart failure.

From the moment the news hit, friends and collaborators have sent messages paying tribute to Nate.  "We lost a true legend in hip-hop and R&B...one of my best friends and a brother to me since 1986 when I was at Poly High where we met", tweeted 'Snoop Dogg'. "RIP NATE DOGG"!

He first gained national attention on Dr Dre's "Death Row Records" 1992 masterpiece album "The Chronic", and earned Nate the first of his four Grammy nominations in 1995 for the hit "Regulate", a collaboration with Warren G.

His most recent nomination came from 'Eminem's' "Shake That" in 2007.  "Nate's voice in music will never be replaced. He created the blue print for West Coast hip-hop, and I was one of the lucky people who had the privilege to work with him, and the honor to have him as a friend", commented Eminem.

"There is a certain void in hip-hop's heart that can never be filled.  Glad we got to make history together", tweeted 'Ludacris'....who also benefitted from a catchy Nate Dogg hook on his 2001 song "Area Codes".

So many other rappers expressed grief over Nate's death, including 'Sucker Free', '50-Cent', 'Daz Dillinger', 'Obie Trice', and 'G-unit's LLoyd Banks'....all of whom (and many more) reminded us of how Nate's crooning, deep voice contributed to their success!

Nate began an interesting childhood by singing as a toddler at the local Baptist Church in Long Beach, California, and later choired at a parish that his father was pastor of in Clarksdale, Mississippi.

Returning to California, he dropped out of highschool at age 16, and left home to join the United States Marine Corp...where Nate served for three years!

Shortly thereafter, he became friends with, and partnered in the rap game with Snoop Dogg and Warren G., where they would eventually form a trio called "213".

They recorded their first demo in the back of the famed "V.I.P." record store in Long Beach, and from there it reached Dr. Dre's ears while attending a house party!

Not surprisingly, Dre was impressed with Nate's soulful voice, and so began a history with Death Row Records from 1993 to 1998.

Nate has also been featured in many of the late 'Tupac's' releases including the album 'Thug Life Volume- One', along with his own double album "G-Funk Classics Volume 1&2...which was followed  in 2001 by "Music and Me"--which peaked at number three on the 'Billboard' hip-hop charts.

While Nate Dogg has been featured in,  and contributed to over 40 chart singles over the years, one can't help but expect that he will be rememberd fondly in many more to come by the multitude of stars, friends, and fans that listened to, and loved him!

Remember to check out many of  Nate Dogg's hits on Streetwise Radio's daily show Big Hop airing every evening at 7pm!

Thanks, and keep listening

Sincerely, PeteCam4

BRUNO MARS

Bruno Mars was born Peter Gene Hernandez on October 8, 1985 in Honolulu
Hawaii. When Bruno was two years old his father nicknamed him that because
of his resemblance to chubby professional wrestler Bruno Sammartino. Bruno
grew up in a musical family; he was exposed to different genres of music
like reggae, hip-hop, rock and R&B. At a young age Bruno was impersonating
and performing songs by artist like Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, The
Isley Brothers, and The Temptations. Bruno was featured in Midweek a
tabloid magazine as “Little Elvis” this led to a cameo in the film
Honeymoon in Vegas. Bruno said “I watch the best. I’m a big fan of Elvis.
I’m a big fan of 1950s Elvis when he would go on stage and scare people
because he was a force and girls would go nuts! You can say the same thing
for Prince or The Police. It’s just guys who know that people are here to
see a show, so I watch those guys and love studying them because I’m a
fan”.

Bruno is a versatile singer-songwriter and music producer; he has written
and produced songs with Alexandra Burke, Travie McCoy, Adam Levine,
Brandy, Sean Kingston and Flo Rida. Bruno also co-wrote the Sugababes hit
song “Get Sexy” and produced backing vocals on their album Sweet 7. Bruno
first musical appearance as a singer was with Far East Movement’s second
studio album Animal, featured on the track “3D”. Bruno reached solo artist
prominence after being featured on and co-writing B.o.B’s “Nothin’ on You”
and Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire” both songs hit the top ten worldwide.

In 2010 I was watching the Soul Train Music Awards, Bruno performed
“Grenade” that was the first time I heard of Bruno Mars, that is when I
became a fan that young man could sing! Bruno won a Soul Train Music Award
for Song of the Year for “Nothin’ on You”. I guess with fame comes the bad
influences. That same year Bruno was arrested in Las Vegas for possession
of cocaine on September 19. 2010. When Bruno was talking to a police
officer, he reportedly stated what he did was “foolish” and that “he has
never used drugs before”.

Bruno won a Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for “Just the way
You Are” February 2011. I like Bruno Mars; he is a good singer and song
writer who will be around for a longtime if he does not get caught up with
the bad influences. All you Bruno Mars fans you a listen to Bruno Mars on
Streetwise Radio Ultra Mix.
