Sitting
here on this cool Monday morning on March 28th
thinking, how this month flew by. Listening to StarRo’s music,
looking around my house wanting to get up and start the spring
cleaning ritual my mother instilled in me at an early age. StarRo is
a Japanese music mixologist, Guitarist, Keyboardist, Producer based
out of Los Angeles. What I like about his music, it has that hint of
his Japanese heritage in it. His music is considered downtempo
influenced by Straight-ahead jazz, Brazilian, Folk, Acoustic, Soul
and Hip Hop. There is one female artist he features on his song
“Can't Get You Out Of My Mind” by the name of Alcordo she can
sing. StarRo’s mixes are unique and very chill. You can listen to
them while you are working or just chilling. Check out StarRo on

HUCCI WHO?

I know the title must have you a lil baffled but no i'm not talking about fast women. lol What i am mentioning or should I say who i'm referring to is an English born trap producer named HUCCI. Just like a contract killer his wrath is felt by those he encounters but you cannot find much info about the dj. One thing is for sure his Internet following is immense and he seems to like being the unknown. Hucci uses tons of hip hop samples and vocals to create his airy trap sound. HUCCI varies his tempos so you don't get exhausted from fast paced sounds of a lot of trap producers. the track i'm lovin right now is called “Hitta” which uses r&b and hip hop vocals to lace an 808 heavy track. HUCCI is not afraid to mix up samples mid-song and gracefully navigates from sample to sample. HUCCI’S following patiently wait for internet drops because there’s not much else to go on. It's easy to see that he has an immense, hip hop love. It flows over most of his tracks.The track entitled ‘PERFECT STORM” is a dope cut that uses a Micheal Jackson vocal to lead the song and I honestly had never before paid that much attention to Mj’s lyrics but the track forced them onto me which was cool to say the least. Disclosure
If
you’re into electronic dance music the dynamic duo Disclosure is
definitely a group to check out. These two brothers from Reigate,
Surrey in England came onto the music scene with their singles
"Tenderly" and "Flow" in 2012. On June 3, 2013
their debut album “Settle” was released and nominated for Best
Dance/Electronia Album at the 2014 Grammy Awards. I must say that I’m
not really into to electronic dance music but Disclosure really
started to change my mind. My favorite thing about Disclosure is that
they are very experimental. They release tracks that sound incredibly
different from the one before. Disclosure has some of my favorite
artists featured on their songs like, Mary J. Blige, Kwabs, Gregory
Porter and Sam Smith. Here are a few of my favorite songs “Omen ft.

Tiara Thomas
DJ Michael Ealey is known for finding underrated talent, to
play on Streetwise Radio. He is playing Tiara Thomas this 24-year old talented
singer, songwriter from Indianapolis, Indiana. I first heard of her on Wale’s
song “Bad” featuring Tiara Thomas. I like Tiara’s version of the song “Bad”,
better without Wale. The version Rihanna did in my opinion was awful. Tiara
Thomas used social media to get herself out there. I think that was smart,
otherwise we probably would not heard about this inventive young lady. Tiara
released a five song from the “Dear Sallie Mae” album on October 8, 2013. The
songs are “Tell Me Something”, “Popular”, “Gang Signs”, “Dear Sallie Mae” and “4Dolla
Bill”. The songs that are going on my play list are “Popular” and “Tell Me

Hip Hop/Rapper Murs a True Storyteller
I don’t
know why a hip hop/rapper like Murs is not as popular as some of
these so called rappers who wins all the music awards. He is a true
storyteller. His name is an acronym he made up which means, "Making
the Universe Recognize and Submit" or "Making Underground
Raw Shit." Yes he is doing just that. He is an artist who is
rapping about what’s happening around him. I must say his raps are
dope. From his debut album in 1997 “F'Real” to his latest album
in 2012 “Yumiko: Curse of the Merch Girl”, Murs has narrated what
he has to say. This alternative hip hop/rapper from Mid-City, Los
Angeles California has been around since 1996. Murs has been linked
with, Living Legends, 3 Melancholy Gypsys, Felt, The Invincibles, 9th
Wonder, Machina Muerte. Some of my favorites songs are "Remember
2 Forget", “Badman”, “The Break Up”, “Yesterday &
Today”, “God's Work”, “Everything”and “First Love”.
Murs is underrated and it’s a shame. But thats why internet radio

Ryan Leslie
There are a
lot of hip hop and rap artists out there that are positive and underrated. Ryan
Leslie happens to be one of them. My son introduced me to him a couple of years
ago. I enjoy his music because no matter whether he’s singing or rapping, he has a
message in his lyrics that you can relate too. Born in Washington, D.C. and
raised in Stockton California Ryan Leslie is multi-talented and intelligent. He
received a 1600 on his SAT score and graduated from Harvard at the age of 19.
Ryan Leslie sings, raps, write songs, produces records, arranges music, plays
the guitar, bass, keyboards, drums and trumpet. Ryan’s debuted in 2007 with his
single "Diamond Girl" and he just keeps put out fantastic music. Ryan
Leslie has been doing his thing since the age 14. He was tutoring kids and
traveling as a musical ambassador. Ryan Leslie is the whole package, it amazes
me how underrated he is. Some of my favorite songs are "Diamond
Girl", "Addiction", “Pleaze Pleaze Pleaze”, "How It Was
Supposed to Be", “Glory” and "Maybachs and Diamonds". Tune into

Kelly Rowland
Kelly Rowland was born Kelendria Trene Rowland on February 11, 1981 in Atlanta, Georgia. At the age of seven Kelly’s mother left her father because he was an abusive alcoholic. When Kelly was eight, Kelly and her mother relocated to Houston, where she joined a rapping and dancing group with Beyonce` Knowles and LaTavis Roberson. The name of the group was called Girl’s Tyme; they performed on the television show Star Search the biggest talent show at the time and lost the competition. In 1993 the group changed their name to Destiny’s Child. Destiny’s Child was very successful between 1999 and 2002; the group broke up to focus on their solo careers. In 2002 Kelly and Nelly one of my all-time favorite male artist team up on the single “Dilemma” this is still one of my favorite songs. Kelly won a Grammy for Best Rap/Song Collaboration and Billboard Award in 2003. Kelly’s debut solo album Simply Deep had a mixture of alternative-R&B and rock music, Brandy and Solange Knowles sung background vocals. The songs that are my favorites from this album are “Can’t Nobody”, “Beyond Imagination”, “Every Time Walk Out That Door”, “Heaven”, “Stole” and “Dilemma. In 2007 Kelly came out with Ms. Kelly album with the hit single “Like This” featuring Eve and “Work” I really like “Work”. My favorite songs on the Ms. Kelly album are “Ghetto” (featuring Snoop Dogg)”, “Every Thought is You”, “Like This”, “Flashback”, The Show (featuring Tank)” and “Come Back”. The Ms. Kelly album should have been released in the United States first I think it would have been more successful. In 2009 Kelly went in a different direction, she left her manager Matthew Knowles and Columbia Records. Kelly did house collaboration with French DJ David Guetta’s “When Love Takes Over” in which was the lead single for Davis Guetta’s One Love album in 2009. This song is high energy, I like it Kelly rocks! Kelly recorded the theme song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup “Everywhere You Go” with international artists called Rhythm of South Africa United. Kelly did her thing on the Here I Am album; my favorite songs are “Turn It Up”, “Im dat chick”, “Feelin Me Right Now (featuring Rico Love)” and “Lay It On Me”. Kelly is nominated for a 2012 Grammy for “Motivation” (featuring Lil’ Wayne)” in which Rico Love wrote. Kelly Rowland I my opinion will be around for quite some time. Her willingness to work with artists of all genres of music keeps Kelly Rowland fresh. I hope she wins the Grammy, she deserves it.

SA-ROC an Amazing Talent
It’s about time there is a female emcee that is spitting true knowledge. Sa-Roc is truly talented, she talking about things that are relevant not this crap that is playing on the radio. Sa-Roc was born and raised in the Southeastern quadrate Washington, DC in an Afrocentric household. Sa-Roc grew up listening Go-Go a sub-genre of funk music that originated in Washington, DC. In the mid-1960s to the late 1970s, Sa-Roc also grew up listening to Jimi Hendrix, Billie Holiday, Lenny Kravitz and The Cranberries. Sa-Roc is a writer and poet. Sa-Roc was 19 years old when she started rapping her interest was piqued so she decided to write a rap. Sa-Roc was not serious until she met Sol Messiah, a Atlanta producer and Be-Boy. I think this meeting was a gift from the ‘Almighty’, because we would not have heard about this talented female emcee. Sa-Roc should be played on the radio. It’s a shame that the major record companies don’t know what to do with true talent, or should I say they are afraid of true talent because they can’t mold them into a cash machine. Like Nicki Minja, and Rihanna they are so made up and commercial. Sa-Roc is a beautiful black woman who doesn’t have to be made up plus she has talent. My favorite Sa-Roc songs are “Valley Of The Queen”, “Endustry”, “The Girl Who Could Fly”, “Dark MatterZ” and “Just-Us (4 Troy). If you have not heard any of Sa-Roc music I suggest you YouTube it, listen to her music the knowledge she rapping in all of her songs is what needs to be said and heard. EVE
Eve was born Eve Jihan Jeffers on November 10, 1978, she is a rapper, record producer and actress. Eve grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania while she was in school she sang in many choirs Eve formed (Dope Girl Posse or D.G.P.) this group sung songs from En Vogue and Color Me Badd. After Eve’s manager saw this rap group called ABC he said they should rap. Eve went solo after the rap group she formed split up. That was the start of “Eve of Destruction.” Eve became the first female rap artist on Billboard 200 at number one with “Let There Be Eve...Ruff Ryders’ First Lady.” Eve is also an actress she played in Barbershop and Barbershop 2: Back in Business with Ice Cube. Eve appeared with Vin Diesel in xXx, The Cookout with Queen Latifah and The Woodsman with Kevin Bacon. Eve in my opinion is one of the great ladies of rap. Her lyrics in her songs are so deep. The song “Love Is Blind” (featuring Faith Evans) is talking about domestic violence, I love this song she is speaking the truth. Eve’s song “Let Me Blow Your Mind” with Gwen Stefani is so good Eve says “It’s only been a year now I got my foot through the door and I aint goin nowhere”. Eve’s “Gangsta Lovin” (featuring Alicia Key) song is one of my favorites. Eve is in my opinion is and will always be one of the best female lyricist she comes deep and hard. Heavy D May 24. 1967-November 8, 2011
The world has lost a talented rapper, songwriter, record producer and actor. Dwight Arrington Myers better known as Heavy D passed away on Tuesday November 8, 2011 he collapsed after returning home from shopping. The coroner’s report ruled his death was inconclusive. Heavy D was born in Mandeville Jamaica, but was raised in Mount Vernon, New York. I was saddened to hear of Heavy D’s passing. I remember when Heavy D & the Boyz came on to the music scene in the 80’s. The songs “Overweight Lover In The House”, “Girls They Love Me” were the songs that put heavy men on the map. Heavy D was not only a rapper he was also a songwriter, he wrote the theme song for the television show “In Living Color” and “Madtv. Heavy D also rapped on Michael and Janet Jacksons singles “Jam” and “Alright”. Heavy D was also a producer and has worked with and helped develop Mary J Blige he also helped Sean “Diddy” Combs. Heavy D even collaborated with Blues legend B.B. King on his “Wild Deuces” album rapping on the song “Keep It Coming”. I like Heavy D’s songs “Nuttin But Love”, and “Now That We Found Love” are still favorites of mine. I watched Heavy D performance on the 2011 BET Hip Hop Music Awards in October; I never imagine that it would be his last performance. Heavy D looked health he was singing, dancing and had the crowd on their feet. R.I.P. Heavy D you will be missed.

BRUNO MARS
Bruno Mars was born Peter Gene Hernandez on October 8, 1985 in Honolulu
Hawaii. When Bruno was two years old his father nicknamed him that because
of his resemblance to chubby professional wrestler Bruno Sammartino. Bruno
grew up in a musical family; he was exposed to different genres of music
like reggae, hip-hop, rock and R&B. At a young age Bruno was impersonating
and performing songs by artist like Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, The
Isley Brothers, and The Temptations. Bruno was featured in Midweek a
tabloid magazine as “Little Elvis” this led to a cameo in the film
Honeymoon in Vegas. Bruno said “I watch the best. I’m a big fan of Elvis.
I’m a big fan of 1950s Elvis when he would go on stage and scare people
because he was a force and girls would go nuts! You can say the same thing
for Prince or The Police. It’s just guys who know that people are here to
see a show, so I watch those guys and love studying them because I’m a
fan”.
Bruno is a versatile singer-songwriter and music producer; he has written
and produced songs with Alexandra Burke, Travie McCoy, Adam Levine,
Brandy, Sean Kingston and Flo Rida. Bruno also co-wrote the Sugababes hit
song “Get Sexy” and produced backing vocals on their album Sweet 7. Bruno
first musical appearance as a singer was with Far East Movement’s second
studio album Animal, featured on the track “3D”. Bruno reached solo artist
prominence after being featured on and co-writing B.o.B’s “Nothin’ on You”
and Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire” both songs hit the top ten worldwide.
In 2010 I was watching the Soul Train Music Awards, Bruno performed
“Grenade” that was the first time I heard of Bruno Mars, that is when I
became a fan that young man could sing! Bruno won a Soul Train Music Award
for Song of the Year for “Nothin’ on You”. I guess with fame comes the bad
influences. That same year Bruno was arrested in Las Vegas for possession
of cocaine on September 19. 2010. When Bruno was talking to a police
officer, he reportedly stated what he did was “foolish” and that “he has
never used drugs before”.
Bruno won a Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for “Just the way
You Are” February 2011. I like Bruno Mars; he is a good singer and song
writer who will be around for a longtime if he does not get caught up with

The "Bitter-Sweet" of EMINEM
Image via WikipediaAn only child of English, German, Swiss, and Polish ancestory, Marshall Bruce Mathers III was born on October 17th, 1972 in St. Joseph Missouri, where his father abandoned the family after a year--leaving he and his mother to live in poverty.
At the age of 12, they moved to Warren, Michigan near Detroit, where Mathers became interested in hip hop after buying the Beastie Boys album Licenced to lll.
Two years later, Mathers was performing amateur raps under the pseudonym "M&M", while also competing in free style rap battles at East Detroit's Osborn Highschool, where he would eventually drop out at age 17.
Upon joining the group "Soul Intent" and recording an extended play track called 'Steppin Onto The Scene', Mathers broke off to compete in more freestyle rap sessions, where he won numerous awards and gained approval of underground hip hop audiences.
It was also during these early, lean years that Mathers worked minimum wage jobs as a cook and dishwasher to support both his mother and young daughter Hailie,while honing his rap style and chasing his dream of wealth.
Before finally signing with FBT Productions in 1992, he lost his maternal uncle Ronnie Nelson to a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, which devistated Mathers...who was close to his uncle.
While Mathers did manage to realease his debut album Infinite a few years later, its content often described his own life struggles raising a daughter, being broke, and abusing drugs, often to fight off depression and insomnia.
Shortly after the album's release, Mathers survived his own un-successful suicide attemt, which may have been the sling shot that launched him into better times...better yet--super stardom!
In 1998,record producer Dr. Dre signed Mathers to his 'Aftermath Entertainment' label, and they both began recording tracks for Eminem's first, major label album called "The Slim Shady LP".
In 1999, 'The Slim Shady LP' won a Grammy Award for 'Best Rap Album', as Billboard Magazine called it "light years ahead of any material Eminem has written so far"!
His next album, "The Marshall Matthews LP" became the fastest selling solo album in United States history, allowing Mathers his own label Shady Records, and his own group project "D12".
The Marshall Mathers LP and his third album, "The Eminem Show" also won Grammy's , making Eminem the first rap artist ever to win best album three strait years.
He also won another 'Best Album' Grammy in 2010 for "Relapse", giving Eminem a total of 11 career Grammy Awards!
In early 2003, I was working at the Mercado shopping center in Santa Clara, California not far from the AMC theater complex, where a huge crowd of teenage movie-goers packed the entire parking lot in long lines...all to see one of the first showings of a movie called 8-Mile!
It was nothing short of a mob scene! I later found out it starred the latest rap superstar Eminem...who, I admit I knew very little about...except that his popularity was capturing the imaginations of millions!
A week later, I saw "8-Mile" and truly enjoyed Eminem's only major film role.(He's appeared in a few more...and various TV shows including 'Entourage')
Wouldn't you know it, Mathers won an Academly Award for 'Best Original Song' for "Lose Yourself", who's lyrics portrayed him as the lead man, also growing up poor in urban Detroit with a single mom, troubled romances, depression, and a desire to prove himself as a star rapper--which he achieved in the film, and, of course....in real life!
"Lose Yourself'" went on to become the longest running #1 hip hop single ever recorded, and it led Mathers to take a breather from making records for a few years.
Then, in 2009 his successful release of the album "Relapse" awarded him the 'Best Music Artist of the Decade on theUS Nielsen SoundScan which also recognized Mathers as selling more than 80-million albums worldwide!
In 2010, he released his seventh studio album called "Recovery", which became his sixth consecutive number-one album in the U.S. achieving international, commercial success in several other countries, and stayed on top of the U.S. Billboard 200 chart for five consecutive weeks.
Throughout his career, Mathers has also been in the midst of controversy and criticism, mostly regarding terse lyrical references directed at stars like 'Michael Jackson', 'Mariah Carey', 'Christina Aguilera', and even the President of the United States,('George Bush')...who had the F.B.I. ready to interrogate Eminem for song lyrics implying his preference for a dead president!
However, despite the fact Mathers has never avoided pushing the envelope to its max, he's always performed in strait-up fashion-- in his life experiences, in his clear, intense, and inspiring lyrics, and, finally...with his own distinct and entertaining style!.
It's not hard to wonder why Vibe magazine labeled 'Eminem' the greatest rapper alive in 2008, while VH-1 has him ranked 79th on their Top 100 artists of all time list---just a slim shade better than Rolling Stone magazine's ranking of 82nd all time!

Charlie B.
Bio:19 year old singing sensation Charlie B, born and raised in the small town of Plainview Tx. Singing has been a passion of Charlie's since the age of 7 when he did his first major performance in front of a live audience of over 1000 students at a local university. Moon walking across stage, Charlie received a standing ovation. As Charlie grew older he began learning and working as a choreographer. He was worked with National talent G Spot Boys, 4way, M.O.D, as well as other local artists. As he has surrounded himself with talent & producers, agreat guideline has been provided for him to follow. At the age of 16 Brett Nevelle Collins AKA Charlie B lost his mother to a massive heart attack and stroke. This life altering event created an even bigger focus, and drive for charlie to succeed, and fulfill the dream that his mother had to see in him. She is his guiding light. Other inspirations are his stepmother, father, Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Usher, and James Brown.

You guys are incredible; definitely won’t be long before you guys can be heard with the rest of the hiphop cats such as Outkast. You remind me of De La Soul; Ya’ll are like the West coast De La Soul to me, that’s one of my favorite hip-hop groups ever in hip-hop. Ya’ll are dope” - Tim Kelley & Bob Robinson (6-time Grammy Producers)
As a group, we embrace poignant, witty, well thought out lyrics, which at times are positive and geared towards exciting everybody. We have mass appeal and we easily appeal to those who like underground and mainstream/commercial hip-hop music.

WALK ON THE WILD SIDE
Now, she has captured the entire world's attention by straying from her previously accredited high-fashion sense, to a fresher version--stripping naked in public to conclude her latest music video "Window Seat" on March 17th.
The video is a one-take, slow motion stroll by Badu through the infamous Dealy Plaza in Dallas, Texas, at the very spot where President Kennedy was assassinated 47-years ago. Badu slowly takes off her clothes while walking in front of adults and children, who are touring the hallowed and ill-fated path that Kennedy's motorcade took on Elm Steet before he was fatally shot in 1963.
Badu stands nude as the sound of a gunshot rings out, and her head snaps back violently. She then falls dead onto the pavement as the frame freezes on her sprawled nakedness--and you hear Badu narrate the closing words:
"They who play it safe are quick to assasinate what they do not understand. They move in packs ingesting more and more fear with every act of hate on one another. They feel most confident in groups, with less guilt to swallow. They are us. This is what we have become, afraid to respect an individual. A single person within a circumstance, can move one to change--to love herself...to evolve".
From what I gather based on various articles and her personal Twitter texts, Badu was trying to overcome her own individual fears, while combating what she calls the "Group Think" style of modern society. "I will not express my opinion if it opposes those I love and fear", she states.
Badu admits she was petrified while shooting this video, but that lliberation began to set in, and she conquered many fears in those few moments. "I hope it will encourage others to do the same in their own way, and I wasn't embarrassed by my nudity... because I was too busy looking for cops", she said.
In fact, Badu was lucky not to have been arrested for indecent exposure, however, no one reported her-- and she also broke the law by filming without a permit.
While escaping prosecution, Badu did not avert strong criticism from the press, and strong public outcry from nation-wide audiences...as well as those who saw it in person. Adult tourists were heard shouting: "This is a public place. You ought to be ashamed--put on your clothes".
All in all, I feel Badu showed poor taste and dis-respect, not only for common public decency, but for what's become a sacred public landmark (Dealy Plaza) that has marked time, and become a focal point of our national growth..
Perhaps I'll include more on Erykah Badu the 39-year old musical artist and actress in future blogs, as her successes include six albums and five film appearances--including her role as Rose Rose, an incest-victim daughter in the movie hit "The Cider House Rules".(One of my favorites)
But for now, Badu is the woman with the hottest music video around (a true 'walk on the wild side'), that was intended to overcome fear--and instead inspired controversy, along with a quantum-leap in fame.
