Heavy D May 24. 1967-November 8, 2011

The world has lost a talented rapper, songwriter, record producer and actor. Dwight Arrington Myers better known as Heavy D passed away on Tuesday November 8, 2011 he collapsed after returning home from shopping. The coroner’s report ruled his death was inconclusive. Heavy D was born in Mandeville Jamaica, but was raised in Mount Vernon, New York. I was saddened to hear of Heavy D’s passing. I remember when Heavy D & the Boyz came on to the music scene in the 80’s. The songs “Overweight Lover In The House”, “Girls They Love Me” were the songs that put heavy men on the map. Heavy D was not only a rapper he was also a songwriter, he wrote the theme song for the television show “In Living Color” and “Madtv. Heavy D also rapped on Michael and Janet Jacksons singles “Jam” and “Alright”. Heavy D was also a producer and has worked with and helped develop Mary J Blige he also helped Sean “Diddy” Combs. Heavy D even collaborated with Blues legend B.B. King on his “Wild Deuces” album rapping on the song “Keep It Coming”. I like Heavy D’s songs “Nuttin But Love”, and “Now That We Found Love” are still favorites of mine. I watched Heavy D performance on the 2011 BET Hip Hop Music Awards in October; I never imagine that it would be his last performance. Heavy D looked health he was singing, dancing and had the crowd on their feet. R.I.P. Heavy D you will be missed.

NELLY

NellyCover of Nelly

I always liked Nelly every since he was with the St. Lunatics. When he went solo in 2000 with his debut album Country Grammar Nelly was on his way. Country Grammar which was the title for the album this single was a
top ten hit. The Country Grammar album is Nelly’s top selling album to date. Nelly’s critics thought he was a novelty when he first debut. Nelly showed them that he was here to stay with his second album Nellyville. This album produced number one hits “Hot in Here” and “Dilemma” featuring
Kelly Roland former singer of Destiny’s Child. Nelly had other singles on Nellyville like “Work It” featuring Justin Timberlake, “Air Force One”,featuring Murphy Lee and the St. Lunatics, “Pimp Juice” and “#1”. Nelly is
an artist that has the cross over appeal. He has worked with artist like Tim McGraw “Over and Over”, Brian McKnight “All Night Long”, Fergie “Party People” and Rick Ross “Here I Am”. Nelly has a new album out 5.0 on this
album \the single “Just a Dream” is Nelly’s highest charting single since his song Gritz in 2005. Nelly is no novelty; his rapping style is described by Peter Shapiro as "unforgettable hooks based on schoolyard songs, double-dutch chants, and nonsense rhymes" and has a "Missouri
twang". All music suggests Nelly's style is based largely on where he comes from - "Nelly's locale certainly informs his rapping style, which is as much country as urban, and his dialect as well, which is as much Southern drawl as Midwestern twang". I can tell when Nelly is singing; on
other artist songs he has that unique sound. I am so glad Nelly is still singing and rapping in his unique style of his. You can listen to Nelly on
Streetwise Radio.

Chris Brown

CHRIS BROWN

Born Christopher Maurice Brown on May 5, 1989, in Tappahannock, Virginia,
Chris taught himself to dance at young age copying his inspiration Michael
Jackson. Chris started performing in his church choir and local talent
shows. Chris’s mother recognized his vocal talent while he was performing
an Usher song. She began to look for a record deals, for her son. At a young age Chris had personal issues. Chris was terrified of his mother’s boyfriend all the time, due to his domestic violence against his mother.
Chris had no idea that seeing his mother being beat on by her boyfriend for years before would have a profound affect on him. I think growing up around that kind of violence does have an affect on children. When little
girls see their mothers being beat on continuously, more than likely they are drawn to the same kind of male figure. Little boys when they see this kind of violence they think it is all right to beat on females. Chris was charged with domestic violence against Rihanna in 2009.

Chris Brown has put this domestic violence charge behind him. Even though his sponsors at the time dropped him and radio stations took his music off the play list. In 2010 on the BET Awards he performed a tribute to Michael
Jackson. While singing “Man in the Mirror” Chris started crying and fell to his knees. I saw his performance, I was even choked up, he truly sung from the heart. I can imagine what he was going through and how sorry he
was for everything he had done the year before. Chris Brown collaborated with Tyga they came out with a mix tape titled “Fan of a Fan” in 2010.
“Deuces” featuring Tyga and Kevin McCall, this single hit number one on the R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart for seven consecutive weeks. Giving Chris Brown his first number one hit single since “Say Goodbye” in 2006. Chris’s
album F.A.M.E. (Forgiving All My Enemies) has two singles “Yeah 3x” released in October 2010 and “Look at Me Now” Featuring Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes released in January 2011. F.A.M.E. album will be released in March of 2011. Will this album earn Chris Brown some more number one hits or a Grammy ?

Chris Brown is an actor as well as a singer. He has acted in a number of television and movies.  In 2007 he stared in three episodes of the television show The O.C. as Will Tutt. In 2008 he was the guest star on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. Chris had his first film debut in 2007 in
“Stomp the Yard” this was a small role. That same year he landed one of the main roles in “This Christmas” as Michael ‘Baby’ Whitfield. In 2010 he played Jessie Attica along side Matt Dillon, Paul Walker, Idris Elba,
Hayden Christensen Michael Ealy and T.I. the crime thriller “Takers”. Chris was also one of the executive producers of this movie. I saw this movie it was good, I liked Chris’s role he played it very well. Chris will
also be in the movie “Phenom” coming in the year 2012.

All that Chris Brown has been through in his short life, I hope he has learned his lesson. I like Chris Brown as a singer and actor I wish him well.
