LEO37

Artist Information
Biography"Lyricist, turntablist, label co-owner and creator of magnitude." (Rokon Magazine - Seoul)

In only 5 years of work, prairie-born LEO37 (née Leo Shia) has managed to amass a resume that boasts accolades and accomplishments comparable to most industry veterans – and he’s done so independently.  2 solo albums, 2 digital releases, numerous studio collaborations and hundreds of performances in packed houses through 11 countries: it would appear that independence isn’t such a bad thing.

Beginning his involvement in music early on with organ lessons at the age of 8 and trumpet and drums shortly thereafter, it wouldn’t be until he got his 16 year old hands on a set of turntables that his part-time hobby mutated into full-blown obsession.  With the opportunity to both expand on his career and pursue a higher education, Leo relocated to Toronto in 2001 where he earned a degree from Ryerson University's prestigious Radio and Television Arts Program while also finding himself on stage and in studio with some of the city's most acclaimed jazz, folk, pop and hip-hop artists, including Christine Bougie (Ronley Teper), Dafydd Hughes (Esthero & Feist) and Soliva.

In late 2004, following a mad season in the UK, Leo recorded Winter, his debut release on PPF House.  Met with rave response, the 7-track EP sold out of its initial pressing in just under a month and received a nomination for Best Hip-Hop Album at the 2005 Toronto Independent Music Awards.  This was followed a year later with Summer, a full length offering which traded in Winter's digital soundscapes for a live band made up of some of Canada's biggest jazz heavyweights.  "From jazz to rock...disco to drum and bass...the point [of Summer] is positivity, but there's also an emphasis on pushing musical boundaries." (The Star Phoenix - Saskatoon)

Since then, Leo’s gone on to release: Applause (2009) – with fellow prairie-born/Toronto-based producer, Sunclef; Icarus (2010) – with PPF House’s resident noisemakers, the Worst Pop Band Ever; executive produced and performed on the label compilation PPF House Basement Suite (2007) -- that was declared "...one of the most original sounds in Canada." by Exclaim! – as well as toured through Canada, the U.S., the U.K., the Netherlands, 7 countries through South East Asia and has been a featured guest at the: TD Canada Trust Toronto Jazz Festival, Ottawa Jazz Festival, Wreckhouse International Jazz & Blues Festival, Sasktel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival, Spring Scream (Taiwan) and NXNE.  "...skilled flow and massive stage presence... Even the people chatting in the back of the room had to stand up and take notice when Leo grabbed the mic." (+886 Magazine – Taipei)

Now back in studio, Leo’s preparing his yet to be titled follow-up to Summer with Toronto-based producer/multi-instrumentalist, John Poon due out Spring 2011.

Having shared the stage with an eclectic mix of artists ranging from Del the Funky Homosapien to the Bad Plus, Tittsworth to Aloe Blacc, and drawing inspiration from the careers of artists like Miles Davis, the Soulquarians, the Native Tongues, Radiohead and Bjork, LEO37 strives for forward-thinking, content-driven music with a thick groove.  Be it as a solo performer, a producer or a turntablist, his range is deep and diverse, offering forth a smart, danceable and utterly unique soundtrack for our times.

Mariah Carey

Carey at Edwards Air Force Base during the mak...Image via Wikipedia
Mariah Carey was born March 27th, 1970 to an Irish mother and an Afro-Venezuelan father, who named their third child after the song "They Call the Wind Mariah".
Carey graduated from high school in Green Lawn, New York, despite missing numerous classes due to her side job as a demo-singer for a local recording studio.
In 1988, Carey met 'Columbia Records' executive Tommy Mattola at a party, and offered him her demo tape before quickly leaving.  He then spent three days tracking her down before frantically signing Carey to a contract.
This "Cinderella"-like story became standard publicity surrounding Carey's entrance into the industry, which was followed by her marriage to Mattola....and their eventual divorce.
In 1990, she co-wrote the tracks to her debut album 'Mariah Carey', which produced five hit singles along with three 'Grammy Awards'.... also establishing Carey as the first recording artist ever to have her first five singles top  the U.S. 'Billboard Hot-100' list.
In 1997, Carely introduced elements of hip hop into her album work, which met limited success prior to a much publicized emotional and physical breakdown in 2001.  One year later, Carey signed on with 'Island Records', and would eventually return to the top of pop
music by 2005.
Carey has sold over 175-million albums, singles and video's worldwide, winning her the best selling pop artist of the millennium at the 2000 'World Music Awards'.  According to the 'Recording Industry Association of America', she is the third best-selling female artist ever, and the 16th best overall.
Carey also has the most number-one singles for a solo artist in the U.S. (eighteen), second only to the 'Beatles'!
In 2008, 'Billboard Magazine' ranked her number six on the 'Billboard Hot-100' all time list....and the second most successful female artist in the history of the chart.
Carey has gone on to win a total of five Grammy's, and is well known for her five-octave vocal range, melismatic style, and use of the whistle register.
Without a doubt, the music world will forever call this wind, this beautiful, whistling wind of romantic melodies...this beautiful wind, MARIAH CAREY!
Thanks and best wishes,
PeteCam4

T.I.'s WILD Ride!

ATLANTA, GA - MARCH 27: Recording artist Clif...Image by Getty Images via Daylife
T.I. was born Clifford Joseph Harris Jr. 29 years ago in Atlanta, Georgia, and from the very start.... his life has been one wild ride!  Raised by his grandparents, T.I. initially went by the name 'Tip' after his great-grandfather, and began rapping at age seven.

His next several years were spent in and out of juvinile hall for dealing drugs, where he got another name "Rubber Band Man" which referenced his habit of wearing rubber bands around his wrist to show off a wealth of drugs or money.

Not until his late teens did the scales finally "tip" for young Tip, when record executive Kawan Prather signed him to 'Arista's' subsidiary 'LaFace Records', after which Tip became 'T.I.' out of respect for his label- mate 'Q-Tip'.

In 2001 T.I. released his first album 'I'm Serious' which included guest spots from 'Pharrel Williams' of the Neptunes, 'Jazze Pha', 'Too Short', 'Bone Crusher', 'Pastor Troy' and 'The Youngbloodz'.  However, the album peaked poorly at number-98, and sold only 163,000 copies in the United States.

The rapper they were calling the "Next 'J-Z' of the South" was soon dropped from Arista, and his critics claimed that T.I. failed to show and prove himself worthy of that comparison, although he did have potential. If his talent ever matched his confidence, they added, he just might become a star.

After being dropped by 'Arista Records', T.I. decided to form his own label called "Grand Hustle Entertainment", and in 2003 he released several mixtapes along with the hit single "Never Scared", which was written by and performed with rapper-pal 'Bone Crusher'.

With his return to the fast track, T.I. signed a joint venture deal with 'Atlanta Records' and released his second album 'Trap Muzik', which was well received.  However, eight-months later T.I. was arrested for violating probation from a 1997 drug conviction, and sentenced to three years in prison.

While inside, he managed to somehow film a music video which earned him an early, work release program....and six months later T.I. put out his third album 'Urban Legend'.  Its single "Bring Em Out" rang in 2005 with his first top ten hit, followed up by "U Don't Know Me" and "ASAP", which also made the U.S. "Hot-100" list.

In 2006 T.I. nabbed two Grammy Award nominations for "Soldier" performed with 'Destiny's Child' and 'Lil Wayne', and rap solo "U Know Me". He also won five 'Billboard Music Awards" including Best Rap Artist of the Year, Best Rap Album, Best Album Artist, Best Rap Song Artist and Best Rap Video of the Year....along with BET's Best Male Hip-Hop Award.

T.I. finished 2006 with his first screen acting roll in the film "ATL", where he played an orphaned highschool senior.  Co-writtin and produced by 'Antwone Fisher' and 'Will Smith' among others.... ATL grossed 21.2 million dollars at the box office.

2007 saw two more hit albums 'King', who's single "What You Know" won the Grammy, and 'T.I. vs. T.I.P.' which featured singles "Big Things Poppin" and "You Know What It Is"....two of many songs featuring guest appearances from 'Justin Timberlake', 'Wyclef Jean', 'J-Z', 'Busta Rhymes', 'Eminem', 'Nelly', 'Mannie Fresh', 'Jeff Bass', 'Grand Hustle', 'The Runners', 'Just Blaze', 'Danja' and 'Alfamega'.

T.I. next appeared in 'Ridley Scott's' film "American Gangster" alongside 'Denzel Washington' and 'Russell Crowe', while also filming 'Chevrolet' commercials with 'Dale Earnhardt Jr.'

Then, in October, 2007, T.I. was arrested by federal agents and charged with two felonies for possessing un-registered machine guns and silencers. The bust happened in a 'Walgreens' parking lot just prior to the 'BET Hip-Hop Awards' in Atlanta, Georgia.

T.I. managed to put up the three million-dollar cash bond, and was confined to his home for five months before being sentenced to an undefined prison term, a year of house arrest, 1500 hours of community service and over a hundred thousand-dollars in fines.

Through all of this, T.I. somehow managed to release his sixth and most successful album 'Paper Trail', collaborate with artists 'Rihanna', 'Mariah Carey' and 'Mary J. Blige', win another Grammy Award, star in and produce the crime-thriller film 'Takers' alongside 'Matt Dillon' and 'Paul Walker', create an 'MTV' reality series, launch his own film company with actor 'Danny Glover', run a nightclub, work with troubled Atlanta youths and help with "Hurricane Katrina" relief efforts.

As if this wasn't enough, there were also three, high-profile fueds with 'Shaunty Lo', 'Lil'Flip' and 'Ludacris'....each involving entourage brawls, guns and the shooting death of his body guard,  Surviving that, T.I.has somehow managed to uphold a family life also, fathering two sons with wife Tameka "Tiny Cottle, and three other children from two previous ralationships.

T.I.'s eventual freedom from legal issues and prison hinges on a recent plea bargain which blocked a possible 10-year sentence, and allowed T.I. to transfer this past December from Forrest City Prison in Arkansas to a halfway house in Atlanta, where he is scheduled to be released on March 26, 2010.

Following an intense financial audit, drug counciling, DNA testing and random searches, T.I. will no doubt be back on his wild ride to fame and fortune....going faster, farther and in more directions  than anyone but HE... could possibly endure!

Thanks again,

PeteCam4

SOULJA BOY TELL’EM

SOULJA BOY TELL’EM

DeAndre Ramone Way better known as Soulja Boy Tell’Em, is a young rapper
who used technology to put him on the rap scene. Soulja Boy self published
his first song “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” on the internet. The song got so
popular it was the number one hit for seven non-consecutive weeks. Due to
his success his peers and critics talk about him and put down his music.
Former rapper Ice-T said “Crank That” is “garbage”. Soulja Boy must be
doing something right, for his peers to be talking about him. People only
hate on you when you’re doing something right. I say good job Soulja Boy
for using technology to your advantage. On another note Soulja Boy was
arrested October 7, 2009 in Henry County Georgia for running from the
police. He returned to the scene and told the police they thought the
house was abandoned so they were filming a video there. With all his money
he should have went about it legally ask the proper authorities, instead
of trespassing on private property. I hope he learned his lesson.

WHITNEY HOUSTON

WHITNEY HOUSTON

Whitney Houston is a talented singer; she definitely got her talent from her from her mother Thelma Houston and Aunt Dionne Warrick. Her debut album was released in 1985. On that album “You Give Good Love”, “Saving All My Love for You”, and “How Will I Know”, earned Whitney Houston best female pop vocal for “Saving All My Love for You” set her sing career superstar status. Whitney is one of the world’s best selling music artists; she sold over 140 million albums and 50 million singles worldwide. Her career was going good; she stared in several feature films, waiting to Exhale, The Preacher’s Wife and The Body Guard. When she married Bobby Brown 1992, things in her personal life was having effect on her career. She divorced Bobby Brown in 2007, and things for her started to turn around. Whitney released her new album “I Look to You” August 31, 2009. The two singles “I Look to You” and “Million Dollar Bill” entered the Billboard 200 at #1. I can say from my point of view Whitney is back.
