Sammie Coming of Age

When he came on the music scene with his 1999 hit single "I Like It", off his debut album "From the Bottom to the Top", this twelve year old seem to be the next rising soul and pop singer. Well that was not the case for this singer. Was it the management that was holding him back or the record label? If you fast forward to 2006 his debut single "You Should Be My Girl" off his second album “Sammie” shows that he still has what it takes. Sammie is coming out with his third album in 2013 called “Coming of Age”. Is this album that is going to push him into soul and pop star status? I was listening too “Body Rock” and “Come And Get Down” like both of these songs. Sammie has proven again that he can still hang with the new school R&B singers, Trey Songz, Bobby Valentino, and Chris Brown. He has the whole package talent and looks to be a star. He needs to stop coming out with an album every 7 years. This is not that good for a music career. You can listen to songs from Sammie on Streetwise Radio. Actual Proof “Black Boy Radio”

What can I say about the duo Actual Proof? Outstanding and Talented! This Duo grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina. Their music is a combination hip hop, classic soul, funk and jazz. Sundown and Enigma, the name of its members are both emcees. Actual proof came about when Enigma had the intelligence to enroll in the North Carolina Central University. Enigma took a class that 9^th Wonder, a Grammy Award Winning Producer, DJ, College Lecturer, and Social Activist, was teaching. The class was hip hop and context. 9^th Wonder invited Enigma and Sundown to his studio and the rest is history. Actual Proof’s album “Black Boy Radio” is about a young black boy growing up on the streets of Raleigh, North Carolina. I think the best song on this album is the cover title “Black Boy Radio” it has that jazzy, funky feel and the lyrics are incredible. It tells a story about a boy growing up in the 1960’s racial North Carolina.  I also like "I Got You", a song about offering support to someone going through personal trials and tribulations.

Rapper Ice Meez Song (Occupy)

The Occupy Movement started in September 17, 2011 in Zuccotti Park, located in New York City's Wall Street financial district. Adbusters a Canadian activist group started the protest. This sparked an around the world Occupy Movement protests. The 99 percent’s main issues are social and economic inequality, greed, corruption and the undue influence of corporations on government; especially the financial services sector. Occupy Movement is also protesting how the growing income inequality and wealth distribution in the U.S. between the wealthiest 1% and the rest of the 99 percent of the population. This underground rapper from Fairfield California, by the name of Ice Meez has a song out called “Occupy”. Ice Meez song Occupy features Young Gully, Moe Green, P-Child, they are speaking the truth about the Occupy Movement that is going on. I’m so feeling this song. This should be the Occupy Movements anthem. This song is saying everything the Occupy Movement is protesting. I think this song should be played on the on-air stations, because it is something positive that people need to hear. Since it is not, our Internet radio station Streetwise Radio will be playing the Occupy Anthem. I want to give mad props to the Ice Meez, Young Gully, Moe Green and P-Child. Thanks for the message.

Whatever Happend To Young Mc.?

Rap music was well on the way to the top by 1989, and along for the wild ride-up seemed to be 22-year old, USC economics graduate Marvin Young....who quickly transformed from middle-class, British born scholar into super-star rapper "Young MC". 

 

He quickly put out the year's top, Grammy winning, best selling song and video 'Bust a Move',..and then collaborated with Tone Loc to write chart toppers 'Wild Thing' and "Funky Cold Medina'. However, from there, Young MC seemed to slip down...and eventually out of sight.

 

His first album 'Stone Cold Rhymin' contained that first hit, and a second one called 'Principle's Office' which reached the top 40. It was even nominated by MTV for a top video award. However, when Young MC decided to drop his record label 'Delicious Vinyl' in favor of 'Capitol Records', he was sued and forced to settle out of court, where things spiralled further down.

 

In 1991 he came out with a second album 'Brainstorm', that never took off.  By 1993 Rap audience's tastes had shifted from the good natured romance-lorn style of Bust a Move, to a harder edged Hip Hop style. MC tried to adapt, following up with an album called 'What's the Flavor' in 1993....but it too flopped. 

 

He spent the next 5 or 6 years producing a few songs, and album compilations like 'The Best of Young MC',and, appropriately, 'The Return of the One Hit Wonder'. Then,  in late 2000 and 2001 he fought back with two more album originals called 'Ain't Going Out like

That', and 'Engage the Enzyme', but neither received much attention.

 

Still, many feel Young MC was a vital, trend setting role-model who helped drive Rap and Hip Hop on through the 90's and into the millennium. These days he's back in the UK, having produced another couple of LP's called 'Adrenalin Flow in 2007, and one he just released called 'Relentless'. If you search the web you can easily find him, where He's even posted his Face Book page.

 

For me, the Bust a Move era of Rap was exciting, and,  I so clearly remeber enjoying the instant success of artists like Young MC and Ton Loc!  I can't help but keep a sharp eye out, and a tuned ear to the ground. They may come around again... as things often do.

On that album “You Give Good Love”, “Saving All My Love for You”, and “How Will I Know”, earned Whitney Houston best female pop vocal for “Saving All My Love for You” set her sing career superstar status. Whitney is one of the world’s best selling music artists; she sold over 140 million albums and 50 million singles worldwide. Her career was going good; she stared in several feature films, waiting to Exhale, The Preacher’s Wife and The Body Guard. When she married Bobby Brown 1992, things in her personal life was having effect on her career. She divorced Bobby Brown in 2007, and things for her started to turn around. Whitney released her new album “I Look to You” August 31, 2009. The two singles “I Look to You” and “Million Dollar Bill” entered the Billboard 200 at #1. I can say from my point of view Whitney is back.
